London ,October 27, 2025 — The Chicalim Youth Farmers Club (CYFC), a Goa-based youth-led ecological movement, officially launched its UK Overseas Chapter during the visit of its mentor, Fr. Bolmax Pereira, expanding its mission of agricultural revival and environmental stewardship to the Goan diaspora.
The launch took place during a gathering of Goan youth at Bekonscot Model Village in the UK, where Fr. Bolmax — Catholic priest and noted environmental advocate — urged Goans abroad to stay rooted in their ecological heritage. “We grow wherever we go — not only as individuals, but as a community rooted in the soil of Goa,” he affirmed.
CYFC President Shogun Fernandes extended the movement’s reach beyond Goa, calling on Goan youth worldwide to join in promoting sustainable agriculture and ecological awareness.
CYFC announced its first Overseas Leadership Team:
President: Mercy Fernandes
Secretary: Janice Fernandes
Treasurer: Mackenzie Gomes
The Overseas Chapter will connect Goans involved in agriculture and sustainability across the UK and beyond, promoting youth participation in eco-entrepreneurship, local farming collaborations, and the use of technology and AI for ecological education.
During his UK visit, Fr. Bolmax visited community allotments and kitchen gardens maintained by Goan families in Swindon, accompanied by Sancia Dias do Rosario, CYFC Overseas Coordinator for Swindon. He praised their efforts in keeping Goan agricultural traditions alive abroad.
Reflecting on his interactions with local British growers and visits to natural heritage sites, Fr. Bolmax highlighted the importance of cultural exchange, sustainability and intergenerational legacy. “Heritage is not what we inherit — it is what we sustain,” he said.
Founded in Goa, CYFC continues to grow as a youth-driven movement empowering Goans locally and globally to lead in ecology, culture and sustainable development.
