Pilerne, Goa, April 12, 2026 – The Divine Mercy Movement (DMM) of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman marked Divine Mercy Sunday with devotion at St. John the Baptist Church on the Second Sunday of Easter.
The celebration began with the singing of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, followed by a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão. Parish priest Fr. Derick Fernandes welcomed the faithful.
In his homily, the Archbishop reflected on the life of Rani Maria, highlighting how her family’s act of forgiveness towards her assassin became a powerful witness to mercy and hope. He urged Christians to forgive others and become instruments of God’s mercy in society.
Fr. Ashley, President of the DMM, thanked the Archbishop and all those involved in organising the event.
During the celebration, the Archbishop released the Divine Mercy Movement’s guidelines with definitive approval and unveiled prayer cards in Konkani and English. He stressed that the Movement is not merely a devotion but a lived experience of God’s mercy, calling on the faithful to pray and work for peace, noting that conflicts often begin in the human heart. He also acknowledged the early contribution of the Carmelites in promoting the Movement in the Archdiocese.
An interactive session followed the Mass. Dr. Donato Rodrigues, Rector of the Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol, spoke on God’s love and mercy. Devotional songs and personal testimonies added a participatory element, while members shared how the Movement inspires mercy in daily life. Fr. Macson Fernandes, along with seminarians, facilitated group discussions.
The celebration concluded on a spiritually enriching note, with participation from several Divine Mercy groups across the Archdiocese, reaffirming the Movement’s mission to promote mercy and peace among the faithful.
