New Delhi, 21 July, 2025 — Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, resigned from his post on Monday, July 21, citing health reasons and medical advice. The resignation, effective immediately, was submitted to the Hon’ble President of India in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.
“To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately,” Dhankhar stated in his resignation letter.
Expressing gratitude for the support received during his tenure, he wrote, “I extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency – the Hon’ble President of India for her unwavering support and the soothing wonderful working relationship we maintained during my tenure.”
He also thanked the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers: “Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office.”
Recalling the support and goodwill received from lawmakers, Dhankhar wrote, “The warmth, trust, and affection I have received from all the Hon’ble Members of Parliament would ever be cherished at and embedded in my memory.”
Acknowledging the significance of his role in India’s democracy, he said, “I am deeply thankful for the invaluable experiences and insights I have gained as Vice President in our great democracy.”
Reflecting on India’s growth during his time in office, Dhankhar stated, “It has been a privilege and satisfaction to witness and partake in India’s remarkable economic progress and unprecedented exponential development during this significant period.”
He concluded the letter with a message of optimism and pride: “As I leave this esteemed office, I am filled with pride in Bharat’s global rise and phenomenal achievements and hold unwavering confidence in her brilliant future.”
The letter was formally addressed to the Hon’ble President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
