Over 370 Anti-Christian Attacks Reported in India in First 6 Months of 2025

New Delhi, July 21, 2025 — A concerning surge in violence against Christians has been documented across India, with 378 incidents reported between January and June 2025, according to data from the United Christian Forum (UCF) Helpline. This translates to more than two incidents of violence against Christians every day.

The UCF also pointed to a steep rise in cases over the past decade, with annual incidents increasing from 127 in 2014 to 834 in 2024.

UCF expressed deep concern that, if left unaddressed, this rising trend could deeply affect the identity and existence of the Indian Christian community in their own homeland. The organisation identified Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh as the most affected states, citing them as hotspots of hate-driven violence, social exclusion, and mob attacks.

It also noted that many incidents go unreported due to fear of retaliation. Victims often face challenges in accessing justice, as certain elements within law enforcement and the legal system appear unresponsive or complicit, creating an environment of impunity and political patronage.

The UCF has appealed for immediate attention from authorities to uphold constitutional values and ensure the safety, dignity, and rights of all citizens, regardless of their religious background.
