Singngat, 28 February 2026: In a significant pastoral and humanitarian initiative, Street Providence inaugurated its first Old Age Home cum Medical Dispensary in Manipur at St. Thomas Parish, Singngat, offering care and medical assistance to elderly persons and widows in the region.
The shelter was blessed and dedicated by Linus Neli, Archbishop of Archdiocese of Imphal, in the presence of Chinlunthang, Medical Officer Dr. Steve Tungnung, Dr. Hegin Tungdim, Fr. Varghese, and numerous priests, religious, and civil society representatives.
Addressing the gathering, Archbishop Neli expressed gratitude to Dr Tungnung for his wholehearted support in establishing the facility and acknowledged the generosity and timely intervention of Donald Fernandes, whose leadership helped bring the project to fruition. He also commended Fr. Varghese for closely accompanying the mission in collaboration with the clergy and religious of Manipur.
“Pray that those who benefit from this service truly need it and receive God’s blessings through this specialised human service. We honour human dignity, human rights, and human care. That is why we are here. Let us ask the Lord to bless us. Our help is in the name of the Lord,” the Archbishop said.
MLA Chinlunthang performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony and thanked Fernandes for undertaking what he described as a noble mission for the vulnerable in his constituency. He also appreciated Dr. Tungnung’s contribution to strengthening healthcare services in Singngat and recognised the collaborative efforts of Street Providence and the parish community.
Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Fernandes expressed gratitude to the MLA for facilitating the licence required to establish the shelter and acknowledged Fr. Mung for permitting the use of the parish school premises. He also thanked Dr. Tungnung for his support during the initial stages of the project.
Fr. Mung coordinated the inaugural programme, which, though simple in form, marked a significant step toward providing structured care and accessible medical services for the elderly and widows in this part of Manipur.
