Over 550 Youth Attend One-Day Retreat and Pilgrimage at Diphu Cathedral

Diphu, November 4, 2025: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of Diphu Diocese organised a one-day Youth Retreat cum Pilgrimage to the Cathedral of the Risen Lord, Diphu, bringing together over 550 young people from across the diocese for a day of prayer, reflection, confession, and spiritual renewal.

The event commenced with a solemn procession to the Cathedral Church, setting a reverent tone for the day. The gathering was marked by uplifting prayers, praise and worship, and dynamic spiritual sessions led by Fr. Thomas Ettiyil VC, Director of the Divine Retreat Centre, Khetri. He was joined by Miss Lucy Joseph, preacher at the DRC, and Sr. Jissilla, who inspired the participants through spirit-filled talks and intercessory prayers.

Prior to the main programme, Fr. Thomas Maripurath, Parish Priest of Diphu, offered prayers for all the young pilgrims. Jemson Teron, President of ICYM-Diphu Diocese (Core Team), welcomed and felicitated the retreat team, priests, and religious sisters who contributed to the day’s spiritual journey.

A key moment of the retreat was the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, where participants experienced moments of deep silence, repentance, and renewal. The youth spent time in personal reflection, surrendering themselves to God and rekindling their faith in Christ. Many testified to being touched, healed, and strengthened by the Holy Spirit during this profound encounter.

The highlight of the day was the Holy Eucharistic Celebration, presided over by Fr. John Timung, Vicar General of the Diocese. In his homily, he reminded the young faithful of the great multitude of saints in heaven, encouraging them to follow Christ with steadfast faith and to aspire to holiness in their own lives.

The ICYM-Diphu Diocese expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Paul Mattekatt, Bishop of Diphu; Fr. John Timung, VG; Fr. Tomy Paleli, Financial Administrator; Fr. Thankachan Joseph, Chancellor and Director of Jirsong Asong; for their unwavering support and encouragement. Appreciation was also extended to Fr. Thomas Maripurath, Parish Priest, and Fr. Dominic Teron, Assistant Parish Priest, for their warm hospitality and for welcoming all participants to the Cathedral.

Special acknowledgment was given to Fr. Jonathan Teron, Diocesan Youth Director, for his guidance and presence throughout the retreat. Gratitude was also expressed to Mr. John Timung and his talented music team for leading the youth in heartfelt praise and worship, as well as to all parish youth leaders for ensuring active participation and coordination.

The retreat concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Jackie Paul Milick, Media Secretary, followed by a symbolic procession led by Fr. John Timung carrying the Jubilee Cross.

The one-day youth retreat cum pilgrimage stood as a day of grace, joy, and renewal, leaving participants spiritually enriched and inspired to live the Gospel in their daily lives.
