Opposition MPs Visit Detained Nuns, Intend to Raise Matter in Parliament

India, July 29, 2025 – A delegation of opposition Members of Parliament, including Benny Behanan (Chalakudy), N. K. Premachandran (Kollam), and Francis George (Kottayam), along with Angamaly MLA Rogi John, visited the two detained Catholic nuns in jail on July 29 amidst growing concern over their arrest.

The visit follows a prior meeting by BJP leader Mr. Anoop, who also interacted with the sisters earlier this week.

According to sources, the visit was marked by an emotional moment when one of the nuns saw her brother, breaking down in tears. Despite the gravity of the situation, the sisters reportedly raised no complaints regarding their treatment while in custody.

The opposition MPs have announced their intention to raise the issue in Parliament tomorrow, citing public concern and the lack of clarity surrounding the case.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the lower court has rejected the nuns’ bail application. Legal experts note that the charges listed in the First Information Report (FIR) are of a serious nature, which typically results in bail being denied at the magistrate level. The legal team is now expected to move the Sessions Court to seek further relief.
