MUMBAI, June 13, 2026: Mount Mary’s Basilica in Bandra joined millions of Catholics across the world in the 17th Annual Global Rosary Relay for the Sanctification of Priests on June 12, gathering the faithful in a prayerful expression of solidarity for priests, vocations, peace and the universal Church.
The international initiative, which links churches, shrines and basilas across continents in a continuous chain of Rosary prayer, assigns each participating location a specific time slot and mystery of the Rosary. Together, these celebrations form an uninterrupted circle of intercession for priests and religious vocations worldwide.
At 6 p.m., a large congregation assembled at the historic Marian shrine to participate in the relay by praying the Glorious Mysteries of the Holy Rosary. The prayer service was marked by deep devotion and reflection as clergy and laity united in support of priests and those discerning a vocation to the priesthood.
Fr. Vernon Aguiar led the First Glorious Mystery, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, highlighting the Resurrection as the foundation of Christian hope. He reflected on the priestly mission of proclaiming this hope through preaching, sacramental ministry and pastoral service. The faithful prayed that priests would remain steadfast in faith and draw strength from the Risen Lord amid challenges and trials. Special intentions were also offered for peace in the world and an increase in priestly vocations.
The Second Glorious Mystery, the Ascension of the Lord, was led by Fr. Jerome Lobo. Reflecting on Christ’s commissioning of the Apostles, he underscored the continuing mission of the Church through the priesthood. The congregation prayed that priests may remain faithful shepherds, rooted in Christ and committed to guiding God’s people toward holiness. Additional prayers were offered for harmony among nations and for young men to respond generously to God’s call.
The Third Glorious Mystery focused on the Descent of the Holy Spirit and the need for continual renewal in the lives and ministry of priests. The faithful invoked the guidance of the Holy Spirit for clergy while remembering the intentions of peace and vocations.
During the Fourth Glorious Mystery, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, participants entrusted priests to Mary’s maternal care, praying for their fidelity, perseverance and spiritual strength.
The Fifth Glorious Mystery, the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, highlighted Mary’s humility and queenship. The congregation prayed that priests may serve as compassionate and faithful shepherds after the heart of Christ, while seeking a renewed spirit of faith and a flourishing of vocations throughout the Church.
Special prayers throughout the service were offered for the sanctification of priests, bishops and all engaged in pastoral ministry, as well as for peace and unity within the Church and the wider world.
As part of the observance, the Rector solemnly recited the Prayer of Consecration of Priests composed by Pope Benedict XVI, entrusting priests throughout the world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and invoking God’s grace upon their ministry.
The evening’s programme continued with Eucharistic Adoration led by Fr. Vernon Aguiar following the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Coinciding with the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, he reflected on Christ’s boundless love for humanity, emphasizing agape—the selfless and unconditional love of God.
He encouraged the faithful to respond to this divine love through prayer, forgiveness, service and acts of charity. The period of adoration provided an opportunity for silent prayer and personal encounter with Christ in the Eucharist.
The gathering concluded with Benediction and the Prayer of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, bringing the evening to a prayerful close.
Mount Mary’s participation in the Global Rosary Relay underscored the universal nature of the Catholic Church and the enduring power of collective prayer. As the faithful departed, they carried with them renewed hope and a deeper commitment to supporting priests and fostering vocations through prayer.
The annual Global Rosary Relay continues to unite Catholics across nations, reaffirming the Rosary’s enduring role as a source of spiritual strength, unity and support for priests and vocations throughout the world.
