Lenten Padayatra in Bhadravathi Witnesses Strong Turnout of Faithful

Bhadravathi, Karnataka, March 22, 2026: In a moving expression of Lenten devotion, over a hundred faithful took part in a penitential padayatra organised by Church of Our Lady of Velankanni, transforming a simple walk into a profound journey of prayer, repentance, and solidarity.

Titled “Prāyaśchittada Nāḍige Māviṅkēreya Kaḍege” (Lenten Walk of Penance towards Mavinkere), the 10-kilometre pilgrimage was held under the auspices of the parish Laity Commission and drew around 123 participants, including religious sisters, youth, children, and the elderly.

Led by parish priest Fr. Steevan D’Sa, the faithful journeyed prayerfully towards Mavinkere, filling the route with Lenten hymns, the Rosary, and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. The atmosphere throughout the walk was marked by devotion and a shared spirit of penance.

Participants also lifted up special intentions during the pilgrimage, praying for peace in the Middle East, for spiritual renewal during Lent, and for those facing hardships across the world—giving the event a strong global and intercessory dimension.

On reaching Mavinkere, the group was received by Fr. Paul Crasta. A prayer service followed, culminating in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist led by Fr. Steevan D’Sa, during which the intentions of the pilgrims were offered at the altar.

The gathering concluded with a gesture of fellowship as local parishioners served breakfast to all participants, reinforcing the sense of community that marked the day.

The event was coordinated by Sr. Shobhana and Mrs. Reshma D’Souza, whose efforts ensured its smooth conduct.

Widely appreciated by participants, the padayatra was seen as a spiritually enriching experience that deepened faith and fostered unity. It also echoed the wider call of the Church during Lent—to embrace repentance, stand in solidarity with the suffering, and pray earnestly for peace.

More than a devotional exercise, the initiative stood out as a vibrant witness of faith in action, bringing together people across generations in a shared journey of hope and renewal.
