Jirikindeng, West Karbi Anglong, Assam, July 18, 2025: The Youth Leadership Programme held at Mary Help of Christians Church, Jirikindeng, in the Diocese of Diphu, on 15 July, proved to be a remarkable success, empowering 154 enthusiastic young Catholics from Jirikindeng Parish and Mojem Mission Centre. The one-day event combined spiritual depth, dynamic leadership training, and a celebration of cultural harmony among the Karbi and Khasi-Pnar youth.
The initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Fr. Basant Kerketta, Parish Priest; Fr. Jonathan Teron, Diocesan Youth Director; the CMC and VSDB Sisters; and a team of dedicated resource persons: Miss Sarah Phangchopi, Miss Rohila Rongpipi, Mr. Anthony Rongpi, Mr. Joshua Phangcho, Miss Indimary Sutnga, and Mr. Jimmy Pdang.
Centred on the themes “Digital Youth for Peace: Shaping Narratives, Building Understanding” and “Be the Change: Christian Leadership Starts Now”, the programme encouraged participants to embrace Christian leadership and digital engagement for peacebuilding. The event commenced at 10:30 am with an opening prayer by Mr. Kalius Sutong, Head Catechist, followed by a warm welcome and the presentation of tokens of appreciation.
Separate, culturally contextualised sessions were held for the Karbi and Pnar youth groups, highlighting their unique perspectives and strengths. The interactive sessions focused on spiritual growth, responsible leadership, and active Christian witness. The resource persons were lauded for their engaging and inspiring input, which deeply resonated with the young attendees.
A strong emphasis was placed on the role of prayer and faith in leadership, nurturing a renewed spiritual commitment among the participants. The closing segment featured a vote of thanks delivered by youth representatives from both communities, followed by gift distribution and a concluding prayer led by Fr. Basant Kerketta.
The day concluded on a joyful and united note, as the youth participated in action songs—expressing their shared faith, enthusiasm, and joy in Christ. The entire event was marked by a sense of gratitude and divine blessing.
Organisers expressed heartfelt thanks to all parishioners for their prayers, support, and generous contributions, which helped make the programme a spiritually enriching and memorable experience.
