Kerala Priest Dies in Tragic Accident in Munich, Church Mourns Loss

Angamaly, April 22, 2026 : The Church in Kerala is in mourning following the untimely death of Fr. Jiju Kilukkan, a 47-year-old priest from Kollakkodu in Ayyampuzha, Ernakulam, who died in a tragic accident in Munich, Germany.


According to local reports, Fr. Kilukkan accidentally fell from a railway platform onto the tracks and was struck by an oncoming train, resulting in his instantaneous death. Police authorities have indicated that no foul play is suspected at this stage, while a detailed investigation into the incident remains ongoing.


Ordained in 2008, Fr. Kilukkan faithfully served in several parishes across Kerala and also held responsibilities as a rector, contributing significantly to priestly formation and pastoral care. Known for his dedication and quiet commitment to ministry, he earned the respect of both clergy and laity.


In 2023, he moved to Germany to pursue higher studies while continuing his pastoral service among the faithful there.


Arrangements are being made to repatriate his mortal remains to Kerala, where funeral rites will be conducted in his native place. His passing has left a deep sense of grief among his family, parishioners, and the wider Church community.
