Kochi, May 2, 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to educational empowerment, the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) of the Archdiocese of Verapoly launched the seventh phase of its flagship "Karuthal Educational Project" on May 2, extending vital academic support to students across the archdiocese.
The programme was inaugurated jointly by Kochi Mayor Adv. V. K. Mini Mol and Bishop Antony Valunkal of Verapoly. In a symbolic gesture marking the launch, they handed over a school bag containing study materials to Rajeev Patric, president of KCYM Archdiocese of Verapoly.
The Karuthal initiative, which has steadily expanded over the years, seeks to assist students by providing essential educational resources and fostering hope among families facing financial challenges. The latest phase underscores the Church's continuing outreach to the educational needs of young people, in collaboration with civic leaders and local communities.
Church leaders and youth representatives highlighted the importance of sustained educational support, especially for students from underprivileged backgrounds, as they prepare for a new academic year.
Those present at the inaugural ceremony included Fr. Ebin Jose Variyath, Sr. Merleeta C.T.C., Shibin Shaji, Fr. Ditto Koola, Rose Mary K. J., Joyson P. J., Kasi Pooppan, Akshay Alex, and executive members Amal George and Joel P. J.
With the launch of Phase 7, the Karuthal Educational Project continues to strengthen its mission of accompanying students on their academic journey, reflecting KCYM Verapoly's enduring dedication to service, solidarity, and the holistic development of youth.
