Malaparamba, Kerala, June 20, 2026: Fr. Abraham Pallivathukal, SJ, a pioneering figure in the early years of the Jesus Youth movement and a respected Jesuit priest, passed away in the early hours of Saturday at Christ Hall, Malaparamba. He was 86 years old.
A founding member of the Jesus Youth movement, Fr. Abraham played a pivotal role in nurturing the spiritual growth of generations of young Catholics. As one of the movement’s earliest animators, he devoted much of his priestly ministry to youth evangelisation, faith formation, and accompaniment, helping shape the movement into a vibrant force within the Church.
Known for his gentle guidance, deep spirituality, and unwavering commitment to the Gospel, Fr. Abraham inspired countless young people to deepen their relationship with Christ and actively participate in the mission of the Church. His contribution to the growth of the Jesus Youth movement remains a cherished part of his enduring legacy.
Following his death, his mortal remains were placed at the Christ Hall Chapel from 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, allowing members of the faithful, religious communities, and well-wishers to pay their respects and offer prayers.

In a message announcing his demise, Fr. Deepak, SJ, called upon the faithful to remain united in prayer for the repose of Fr. Abraham’s soul and in gratitude for his decades of dedicated service to the Church.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced later.
Fr. Abraham’s passing marks the end of a remarkable chapter in the history of Catholic youth ministry in India, but his influence will continue to live on in the lives of the many young people he guided and inspired throughout his priestly journey.
