Faith and Fellowship: 80,000 Youth Gather for Archdiocesan Convention in Mawlai Parish

Mawlai, Shillong, January 16, 2025: The XXII Archdiocesan Youth Convention, organized by SACYM, brought together over 80,000 youth from across the Archdiocese of Shillong from January 9 to 12, 2025, at St. Dominic Church, Mawlai Parish, with the support and cooperation of Rev. Fr. Telesphorus Nonglang (Parish Priest, Mawlai) and Rev. Fr. Jose Varickaseril (Asst. Parish Priest, Mawlai).

The event, inaugurated by Rev. Richard Majaw (Vicar General) in the presence of Rev. Fr. Teibor Lyngdoh (Zonal Director), Rev. Fr. John Barman MSFS (Regional Youth Director) and other distinguished clergy, began with a solemn Holy Mass and offered participants a vibrant blend of spiritual enrichment, learning, and celebration.

Held under the guidance of spiritual leaders, including Rev. Fr. Jameris Shylla (DYD) and Rev. Fr. Edmund Kharsyntiew (ADYD), the convention featured enlightening sessions on Liturgy and Canon Law, equipping attendees with a deeper understanding of the Church’s teachings.

Sr. Wansuk Lyngdoh MSMHC (Regional Youth Lady Animator) and Mr. Jonah Chithung (Regional Youth President) inspired and motivated the youth. The Talent Show encouraged young participants to display their unique abilities through music, dance, drama, and art, highlighting their faith and creativity. The Gospel Concert brought everyone together in a spirit of worship and celebration, with uplifting performances that deepened their spiritual connection. The Awareness Program addressed important social and church-related issues.

The event culminated in a spiritually uplifting Holy Mass and Adoration led by Most Rev. Victor Lyngdoh, Archbishop of Shillong, leaving participants deeply nourished and inspired. The convention served as a transformative experience, strengthening faith, building community, and deepening the youth’s connection with the Church.

As attendees cherished this meaningful gathering, SACYM announced the next convention will take place in 2027 at Mawlasnai Parish, sparking anticipation for another faith-filled celebration.
