KOCHI, October 21, 2026: The 23rd Dominican Family Convention concluded with a commitment to strengthen the Sacrament of Marriage and expand digital evangelisation through coordinated action across the Dominican family.
Held at the Alpha Pastoral Centre, Edacochi, under the theme “From Communion to Mission: The Dominican Response to the Mission of the Church,” the convention brought together 12 priests, two deacons, 51 sisters from six congregations and 33 lay members representing eight chapters.
Bishop Antony Kattiparambil of Cochin inaugurated the gathering, recalling the longstanding spiritual bond between the diocese and the Dominican family. He emphasised that the Church’s mission must combine theological proclamation with humble service to society.
In his keynote address, Prior Provincial Fr Peter Mendonsa OP stressed that authentic service flows from deep communion with God.
The three-day convention explored discernment, preaching, Scripture and the Church’s mission in contemporary society. Fr Aquin Lindon Noronha OP reflected on the Church’s journey amid struggles in India, while Fr Joachim Francis Lakra OP addressed discernment and preaching in today’s context. Dr Joseph Xavier SJ led a session on communal discernment and listening to the Holy Spirit.
Other sessions examined the role of the Word of God in uniting the Dominican family and its relationship with the Church’s mission, with contributions from Fr Bineesh John Macias OP and Sr Dani Chakkunkal OP.
Regional Superior Sr Treesa Konath OP welcomed the participants.
The concluding commitments focused on accompanying families, strengthening marriage and using digital platforms more actively to share the Christian faith, translating the convention’s theme into practical missionary priorities.
