CCBI Stands with Venezuela in Prayer

New Delhi, 26 June 2026: His Eminence Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), has expressed deep sorrow and prayerful solidarity with the people of Venezuela following the devastating earthquake that struck the country on 24 June 2026.


In a letter addressed to Archbishop Jesús Andoni González de Zárate Salas, President of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference, Cardinal Ferrão conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the Catholic Bishops of India to all those affected by the tragedy.


The Cardinal expressed profound sadness over the loss of lives, injuries, and the widespread destruction caused by the earthquake. He assured the bishops, clergy, religious, and faithful of Venezuela of the prayers and spiritual closeness of the Church in India during this difficult time.


The CCBI President also prayed for the rescue personnel, relief workers, and volunteers engaged in emergency response and rehabilitation efforts, asking God to strengthen and protect them in their generous service.


Invoking Christ, the Divine Healer, Cardinal Ferrão prayed for comfort for grieving families, healing for the injured, courage for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods, and hope for all those affected. He also prayed for the successful restoration of lives and the rebuilding of communities.


Concluding his message, Cardinal Ferrão requested that the condolences and prayerful support of the Catholic Bishops of India be conveyed to all the victims of the disaster. He entrusted the people of Venezuela to the intercession of Our Lady of Coromoto, Patroness of Venezuela, praying that she may obtain for the nation the gifts of strength, peace, and consolation.
