Catechism Summer Camp Nurtures Faith and Fellowship Among Children in Akola

Akola, Maharashtra, May 17, 2026 — Around 50 children and catechists from the Akola Zone of the Diocese of Amravati gathered at Mount Carmel School Hall for a Catechism Summer Camp aimed at deepening faith and fostering Christian fellowship among young participants.

The one-day programme was organised with the blessings of Bishop Malcolm Sequeira and conducted under the leadership of Fr. Joselin Pancras.

The camp featured prayer sessions, faith-based activities, action songs and interactive learning experiences designed to help children grow in their relationship with Christ and the Church.

Fr. Crisler, Director of Pastoral Works in the Diocese of Amravati and Assistant Director for Faith Formation, served as the chief guest and resource person for the event. Addressing the children, he reflected on the love of Jesus for children and reminded them that every child is precious in the eyes of God.

Quoting the Gospel passage, “Let the children come to me” (Matthew 19:14), he encouraged the participants to cultivate the habit of daily prayer, respect their parents and teachers, and grow as faithful disciples of Christ.

He also stressed the importance of reading the Bible regularly, participating actively in the Holy Mass and becoming young witnesses to the Gospel in their families and communities. Through stories, practical examples and lively interactions, he motivated the children to use their talents in the service of God and others.

The programme was jointly organised by the Mount Carmel Parish Youth, led by Nelson Alfonso, and the Mount Carmel Laity Team under the guidance of Benedict. Volunteers and youth members ensured the smooth conduct of the camp throughout the day.

A special highlight of the gathering was the celebration of Holy Mass at 4 p.m., which brought the camp to a prayerful conclusion.

The Faith Formation Commission of the Diocese of Amravati expressed gratitude to priests, catechists, volunteers, parents and children for their contribution to the success of the initiative, describing the camp as a meaningful occasion of joyful learning and spiritual enrichment for the children of Akola Zone.
