Asansol Priests Renew Vocation Through Annual Retreat

Raiganj, September 26, 2026: Twenty-six priests of the Diocese of Asansol participated in the first batch of their annual clergy retreat at Jeevan Dhara Retreat Centre, Raiganj, from September 21 to 25, focusing on spiritual renewal, priestly vocation and the challenges of pastoral ministry.

The retreat was directed by Jesuit priest Fr. Thomas Kuzhivelly, director of the retreat centre, who led the participants through reflections on vocation, God’s presence, human weakness, forgiveness and the need for continual conversion.

The reflections began with the theme of the human person as “a pilgrim with a purpose”, inviting the priests to examine their vocation and mission in the light of God’s plan. The sessions also explored God’s love and presence in their personal and priestly journeys, as well as the impact of sin and human weakness on one’s relationship with God.

Further sessions focused on self-realisation, forgiveness and inner healing, encouraging the priests to open themselves to God’s mercy and grace. Particular attention was given to the spiritual and pastoral responsibilities of the Catholic priest, with emphasis on prayer and faith in Jesus Christ.

The retreat programme included guided meditation, audio-visual reflections, personal prayer and individual conversations with the retreat director. Each priest participated in four meditations daily, with time set aside for silence, introspection and discernment. The Sacrament of Reconciliation was also offered as part of the programme.

Bishop Fulgence Tigga of Raiganj presided over the concluding Eucharistic celebration. In his message, he expressed his joy at being with the priests and offered the Mass for them and the intentions of the Diocese of Asansol.

Fr. J. Peter thanked Fr. Kuzhivelly and the retreat centre community for their hospitality, care and support during the programme.

The retreat with the priests renewing their commitment to deeper communion with Christ, personal conversion and dedicated service to the Church and God’s people.
