Youth Leadership Emphasised at Guwahati Catholic Youth Meet

Guwahati, Feb. 16, 2026: Nearly 200 Catholic youths and youth leaders from parishes across the city gathered at Don Bosco Institute, Kharguli for the Guwahati City Catholic Youth Meet, highlighting renewed commitment to unity, leadership, and active participation in the Church’s mission.

The meeting provided a platform for reflection, leadership formation, and dialogue on the shared responsibilities of Catholic youth within the local Church and society. A cultural presentation by the host institute reflected the enthusiasm and engagement of the participants.

The principal address was delivered by Fr Cletus Sebastian, Director of the Don Bosco Institute and Director of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement Northeast. He urged young people to remain rooted in Christ and to take up leadership roles in their parishes, calling them to live their faith with courage and responsibility in contemporary society.

An open discussion session led to the election of leaders for the youth movement, marking a step toward strengthening organisational structures at the city level. Interactive activities, including ice-breaking and team-building sessions facilitated by the Assam Garo Youth Commission, further fostered cooperation and unity among participants.

Organisers said the gathering served as a platform for reflection and action, reaffirming the commitment of Catholic youth in the region to work together in faith and service.
