Ferar, Mangaluru, June 9, 2025: The Young Catholic Students (YCS) unit of St Francis Xavier’s Church, Ferar, a parish under the Diocese of Mangaluru, organised a tree plantation drive in the church yard on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The event took place during the morning hours and aimed to foster environmental consciousness among members of the parish’s YCS unit. The drive was led by the parish priest, Fr. James D’Souza, and the YCS animator, Mr. Mark Pereira.

The programme commenced with a brief inauguration ceremony during which Fr. Dsouza and Mr. Pereira planted the first sapling, officially launching the Vana Mahotsava activity. In his address during the function, Fr. Dsouza emphasised the importance of environmental stewardship, unity, and the proactive role of youth in building a greener future.

Following the inauguration, YCS members enthusiastically planted approximately 150 saplings of diverse species across the church yard. The plantation effort was guided by nature-loving volunteers and carried out with energy, coordination, and a strong spirit of teamwork.

The event concluded with a simple community lunch, marking the successful completion of a purposeful and environmentally impactful initiative. This plantation drive stands as a concrete step taken by the YCS unit of Ferar Parish under the Regional Student Leadership Training Programme (RSLTP), reflecting their commitment to nature and community service.
