Msgr. Alfred John Mendonca, Vicar General of the Diocese of Mysore, while delivering the keynote address, emphasised that women are the pillars of family life, guardians of faith, and influential agents of societal change. Highlighting their special mission in faith formation within families, active participation in the Church, and ensuring children grow in faith and values, he encouraged participants to extend their role beyond their homes into the wider community and care for creation.

The programme featured a series of enlightening talks. Dr. Christina Kantharaj addressed “Role of Women in the Family Life”, underscoring the nurturing and guiding presence of women as mothers, sisters, and household leaders. She stressed the importance of mothers in passing on faith to children and supporting their involvement in the Church’s sacramental and liturgical life.

Speaking on “The Role of Catholic Women in Family Life and Ecology”, Sr. Milagrin D’Sousa UFS urged participants to regard ecological responsibility as a moral and spiritual duty and highlighting its link with care for family life. Fr. Tenny Kurian delivered a practical and motivational talk, “Go Green, Go Clean – Green Campus, Clean Campus”, encouraging women to lead environmental initiatives in parishes and homes, fostering a culture of ecological awareness.

Reflecting on “Faith Formation by Women in Family and Ecology”, Sr. Prema SSS affirmed that women are the first catechists for children and that ecological stewardship is a tangible expression of Gospel values. She called on women to actively engage their families, especially children, in church activities and catechesis. Mrs. Veen Williams spoke on “Minorities Benefit and Ecology”, highlighting the disproportionate impact of ecological challenges on marginalised communities and stressing the responsibility of Christian women to promote justice and sustainable practices in solidarity with them.

The gathering brought together lay women leaders, women religious, advocates, and professionals, creating a vibrant environment for dialogue and collaboration. During the event, a new Women’s Commission Committee for Mysore was elected, representing the diversity and gifts of women across the diocese, to strengthen their mission in the Church.

The gathering inspired participants to deepen their faith, strengthen unity, and journey with hope throughout the Jubilee Year 2025.
