Goa, September 1, 2025: Holy Cross Chapel, Sucaldem-Chinchinim, in collaboration with the Diocesan Commission for Ecology (DCE) Goa, celebrated Green Day to mark the start of the Season of Creation. The event brought together students, catechists, parents, and the chapel community to promote ecological responsibility through prayer, competitions, and the distribution of saplings to students, highlighting a shared commitment to protecting God’s creation.
Pre-event activities included a collage-making competition using eco-friendly materials and a flower arrangement activity featuring wild flowers. During the Holy Eucharist, Fr. Heston Ferrao stressed the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices, conserving natural resources, and protecting biodiversity. He urged students and families to “Go Green” and underscored the significance of community participation in environmental conservation.
The celebration also offered a platform for reflection. “This event brought us together to celebrate our stewardship towards nature, reminding us that even small actions and efforts collectively make a significant difference,” said Mabel Menezes, a member of the DCE and catechist at the chapel. Echoing her thoughts, Levendra Soares, a catechist, noted, “It was truly a beautiful and meaningful celebration, bringing together faith, family, and care for creation.”
Parents too expressed their appreciation. Genesia Pereira, mother of a catechism student, said, “I appreciated and cherished the opportunity to be part of this nature celebration. It was a great initiative to deepen our understanding of love and care for creation.” For others, the day carried a deeper message. “It was a gentle call to see spirituality not in speech alone but in every act of love for our common home – the Earth,” reflected Annaliz Almeida, catechist. Meanwhile, Godrich Antao, president of the Holy Cross Chapel catechism committee, remarked, “It made me aware of our responsibility towards nature and the need to pass on the same responsibility to our catechism students.”
The celebration stood as a testament to the community’s commitment to caring for God’s creation through prayer, action, and collective involvement.
