Lucknow, September 23, 2025 — At a time when youth are often associated with distractions rather than devotion, the young people of St. Fidelis Parish, along with the Lucknow Diocesan Youth Commission, proved otherwise. For the first time, they organised an all-night prayer vigil, which turned into one of the most powerful spiritual gatherings in recent memory.
A Night with Purpose
Centred on the theme “Suffering and Persecution of Catholics”, the vigil offered a space for reflection and solidarity with those who endure hardship for their faith. The evening opened with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, setting a tone of deep reverence. Soon, silence replaced noise, fatigue gave way to focus, and a profound awareness of Christ’s presence filled the parish.
Throughout the night, participants prayed the Rosary, listened to an inspiring talk by Fr. Suresh Majhi OFM Cap, reflected on the Sermon on the Mount, and walked prayerfully through the Way of the Cross. What stood out was the engagement—nobody slept, and nobody wanted to.
The iTrust Ministry led a heartfelt satsang and confession, creating moments of release and renewal. Praise medleys energised the gathering, drawing worshippers into joyful expressions of faith. Significantly, the event was livestreamed on Instagram, allowing young people from hostels, homes, and even other cities to join virtually. Messages poured in: “I couldn’t come this time, but next time, I will. Count me in.”
From Vigil to Eucharist
As dawn broke, the vigil culminated with Holy Mass, celebrated by Fr. Dominic Pinto (Diocesan Youth Director) and co-celebrant Fr. Simon Xalxo (Parish Priest). The Eucharist marked the perfect conclusion to a night steeped in prayer, song, and community.
The youth may have ended the night tired and hungry, but overwhelmingly, they were filled with peace. The vigil was more than an event—it was the beginning of something lasting. Participants left determined to carry their renewed faith into their homes, colleges, and everyday lives.
Faith Alive Among Youth
The organisers—Fr. Simon Xalxo, Fr. Sumit Dungdung (Youth Animator), and the dedicated youth teams—created a genuine space where God’s presence was tangible. The success of the vigil affirmed that the Church is not confined to buildings but lives through its people: united, prayerful, and courageous.
This vigil demonstrated a simple but profound truth: faith is not outdated, irrelevant, or lifeless. It is real, vibrant, and alive in today’s youth.
