Kottar Diocese Marks Jubilee Year Led by Christian Life Commission

Kottar, Tamil Nadu, September 23, 2025 – The Diocese of Kottar observed the Jubilee Year of Hope 2025 with a celebration spearheaded by the Christian Life Commission, which was entrusted with the month of September. The commission, covering the areas of Bible, Liturgy, and Catechism, organised a wide range of activities throughout the month to commemorate the occasion.

From the outset of September, skill development initiatives and competitions were held for catechism students, teachers, parish liturgical groups, and members of the Bible Commission. Each class of catechism students participated in diocesan-level events that highlighted the Bible and Jubilee themes. Among the highlights was a quiz competition based on the Bull of Indiction for the Ordinary Jubilee of the Year 2025, Spes non confundit. Separate Bible quizzes were also conducted for parish liturgy teams and the Bible Commission.

The central Jubilee celebration took place on Sunday, 21 September. Nearly 800 people from across the diocese gathered for the occasion, which included the special recognition of sacristans who have served parish churches and substations for more than 25 years. A major highlight of the day was a fundraising initiative that collected Rs. 2,02,025 from volunteers of the participating commissions. The sum was donated to the diocesan commission supporting persons with disabilities, an act that was widely praised as both inspiring and edifying.

Distinguished speakers addressed the assembly, including Bishop Nazarene Soosai of Kottar, Fr. John Rufus, Vicar General, Fr. Merlin Rengith Ambrose, Executive Secretary of the Commission for Canon Law in the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India, and Fr. Edmond, Commission Coordinator. They emphasised the significance of the Jubilee Year and the need to live its message in practical ways.

The entire programme, along with the preparatory arrangements, was coordinated by Fr. John Jore Henson, ensuring its smooth and successful execution. Prizes were distributed to all competition participants, recognising their efforts and encouraging further engagement. Fr. Amalraj and Fr. Godfrey also attended, offering their encouragement to participants and commending the commission’s work.

The Christian Life Commission’s leadership of the Jubilee celebrations in Kottar not only highlighted the spiritual and communal dimensions of the Jubilee Year of Hope 2025 but also embodied its call to service, inclusivity, and generosity.
