Velankanni, October 4, 2025: The Velankanni Marian Basilica in Tamil Nadu inaugurated a grand exhibition of 1,500 relics of saints on October 1, under the directive of Bishop T. Sagayaraj of Thanjavur Diocese, as part of the Jubilee Year celebrations.
Within three days, the exhibition attracted over six lakh pilgrims and devotees, who came to venerate the sacred relics with deep devotion and reverence.
Bishop Louis Mascarenhas of Allahabad, personally attended the exhibition and commented, “This exhibition is a spiritual need of our times. It is one of the most profound experiences of my life, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to witness it.”
The inauguration was led by Basilica Rector, Fr. C. Irudayaraj, who solemnly transferred the relics from the main altar to the Morning Star Church for public veneration. Fr. Arputharaj, Vice Rector of the Basilica, guided the organisation of the event.
The exhibition is organised by the Carlo Acutis Foundation under the leadership of Fr. Ephrem Kunnappilly, supported by his father, Mr. Joyce Aprem, President, and Vice President, Mr. Ajeesh Benny Kooran. The Foundation has previously conducted relic expositions in 88 locations worldwide, earning international recognition for promoting faith and devotion among the faithful.
