Daltonganj, October 4, 2025: The Diocese of Daltonganj joyfully celebrated the Grand Jubilee 2025 in conjunction with the vibrant Tusgo Festival, a traditional expression of gratitude and thanksgiving.
The celebration was graced by the presence of the Pope’s Ambassador to India and Nepal, Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, who presided over the solemn Eucharistic celebration. He was joined by more than 100 concelebrating priests, including Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas SFX, Archbishop Emeritus Felix Toppo, Bishop Julius Marandi, Bishop Emmanuel Kerketta, Bishop Linus Pingal Ekka, Bishop Francis Tirkey, Bishop Sonatan Kisku, and Fr. Ajit Xess, SJ, the Provincial of the Ranchi Jesuits.
In his homily, Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas SFX emphasised God’s providence and tender care for His people, inviting the faithful to remain steadfast in gratitude and hope. Archbishop Girelli, in his address, congratulated Bishop Theodore and the Diocese for their remarkable strides in spiritual, educational, and social development. He also underlined the deeper meaning of the Tusgo Festival as a moment of thanksgiving for the abundance of God’s gifts.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, a grand felicitation ceremony honoured the bishops and dignitaries present, including Mr Bandhu Tirkey and MLA Ramchandra Singh. As the day also marked Gandhi Jayanti, Archbishop Girelli paid homage to the Father of the Nation by garlanding his portrait.
The celebration drew an overwhelming participation of more than 20,000 faithful, who came together in a spirit of unity, joy, and devotion. Rich in culture and faith, the event reflected the Diocese’s spiritual vitality, cultural heritage, and commitment to growth and development. It stood as a powerful testament to the living faith of the people and their unwavering trust in God’s providence.
