Vatican 30 May 2025: The Vatican’s Philatelic and Postal Service has announced its first official stamps featuring Pope Leo XIV. Four designs have been unveiled, each corresponding to a current postage rate: €1.25, €1.30, €2.45, and €3.20. The stamps portray significant moments from the early days of his pontificate — blessing the faithful after his 8 May election, smiling in the Pauline Chapel, and praying in quiet contemplation.
The Vatican post office announced it is producing 390,000 stamps, each bearing Pope Leo XIV’s name in Latin, “Leone PP. XIV,” at the top, with the inscription “Anno I S.P. MMXXV” along the side, indicating that 2025 marks the first year of his pontificate.
Despite being the world’s smallest nation, Vatican City maintains a remarkably active postal service. With 43 staff members and 26 bright yellow mailboxes across its territory, the Vatican handles thousands of letters daily, sending mail directly to 45 countries. Its stamps have long attracted collectors for their rarity, artistry, and religious significance.
For those unable to travel to Vatican City, the stamps are also available for purchase online via the official philatelic website https://www.postevaticane.va/, allowing collectors and enthusiasts alike to own a small but meaningful piece of this new chapter in the Catholic Church.
