UPAASANA Brings Mandya Youth Together for Faith Formation and Synodality

MANDYA, August 24, 2026: Young people from Mandya Deanery gathered for a day of faith formation, fellowship and reflection on synodality during UPAASANA, meaning “Sitting Near the Divine”, organised by the Diocese of Mysore at Carmel Convent, Mandya, on August 23 as part of the Year of Faith 2026.

Held with the pastoral guidance of Bishop Francis Serrao of Mysore, the programme sought to help young participants deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, reflect on the realities and challenges of life, and recognise their role in the mission of the Church.

Sr. Anitha Mary, CSST, began the programme with an orientation on the purpose and spirit of UPAASANA, followed by an ice-breaker activity that encouraged participants to interact and build fellowship.

A session titled “Facts of Life”, led by Deepa D’Souza, invited the young people to reflect on life’s realities, challenges and responsibilities. Sr. Christia, CSST, subsequently led a session on personal and spiritual formation.

Action songs, games and group activities provided opportunities for interaction, teamwork and community building.

Synodality formed a central part of the programme. Sr. Lynette, CSST, conducted a session on “Synod and Synodality”, focusing on communion, participation and mission. Participants were encouraged to listen to one another, take an active part in the life of the Church and recognise their responsibility as young members of the People of God.

A Faith Experience Sharing session led by Arul Selva Kumar enabled participants to reflect on their personal faith journeys and identify ways in which they had experienced God’s presence in their lives. The session encouraged them to become joyful and courageous witnesses of Christ in their families, parishes, schools and wider society.

The programme concluded its spiritual activities with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, during which participants were invited to renew their commitment to Christ and carry the fruits of the day’s reflection into their daily lives.

The organisers acknowledged Sr. Ashwini, CSST, Superior and Principal of Carmel Convent, Mandya, for her support in hosting the programme. Members of the CSST community, along with the teaching and non-teaching staff, assisted with the arrangements and welcomed the participants.

UPAASANA concluded at 4.15 p.m. with tea and snacks before the participants departed. The programme provided the young people of Mandya Deanery with an opportunity to grow in faith, fellowship and a sense of mission while reflecting on what it means to remain close to God and participate actively in the life of the Church.

The initiative formed part of the Diocese of Mysore’s efforts to accompany children and young people through holistic faith formation and encourage their active participation in the Church’s mission.
