Tamil Nadu Dioceses Review Synod Implementation, Reaffirm Commitment to Synodal Church

Trichy, June 25, 2026: Representatives from Catholic dioceses across Tamil Nadu met in Trichy on June 24 to review the progress of the implementation phase of the Synod on Synodality, reaffirming their commitment to fostering greater communion, participation and mission within the Church.

The review meeting, held at the Laity Animation Centre of the Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Council (TNBC), brought together diocesan representatives responsible for coordinating synodal initiatives at the local level. The gathering provided an opportunity to assess achievements, identify challenges and share experiences from dioceses across the state.

The session was animated by Fr. Christopher Vimalraj, Associate Deputy Secretary General of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), who guided discussions on the ongoing synodal journey and its future direction. He encouraged participants to deepen the spirit of synodality within their local Churches by promoting collaborative leadership, active participation of the faithful and a renewed missionary outlook.

Around 20 participants attended the meeting, including 15 diocesan Synodal Coordinators and two Religious Sisters. The coordinators presented updates on initiatives undertaken in their respective dioceses and exchanged best practices aimed at strengthening synodal processes at the grassroots level.

Discussions focused on practical ways to nurture a culture of listening, shared responsibility and mission-oriented pastoral engagement within diocesan structures and parish communities. Participants also reflected on challenges encountered during the implementation phase and explored strategies to sustain the momentum generated by the global synodal process.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to advancing the vision of the Synod on Synodality across Tamil Nadu. Participants pledged to continue promoting communion, participation and mission in their dioceses as the local Church moves forward in implementing the priorities emerging from the worldwide synodal journey.
