Kozhikode, March 6, 2026: In an extraordinary display of creativity and dedication to reading, students of Loyola School Kozhikode launched 1,000 handwritten books authored entirely by themselves during a special event held on March 4 in Kozhikode.
The initiative brought together young writers who transformed their ideas into complete manuscripts, each carefully written and designed by the students. Every participant created a full handwritten book from concept to final presentation, showcasing imagination, discipline and artistic expression.
The books covered a wide variety of themes and genres, including poetry, travelogues, personal reflections and illustrated stories. Through these works, students expressed their individual perspectives and creative talents, making the event a vibrant celebration of storytelling and literary exploration.
School authorities said the achievement was the result of nearly a year of sustained effort. Over the months, students worked patiently to develop their manuscripts, organising their thoughts into structured writing while also experimenting with illustrations and visual presentation.
Principal Fr. Roy Alex said the initiative reflected the institution’s strong emphasis on nurturing reading habits and encouraging creative expression among students. He noted that the school dedicates a specific period in its timetable exclusively for reading, a practice that has helped cultivate a deeper engagement with literature among learners.
Parent-Teacher Association president Ashik Krishnan described the project as the culmination of a year-long effort supported by the school’s reading-centred approach to education.
Educators involved in the programme said the experience offered students a rare opportunity to understand the complete process of creating a book—from generating ideas and writing content to designing the cover and final presentation. Such initiatives, they noted, help strengthen writing skills while fostering confidence, independent thinking and a lasting appreciation for literature.
The simultaneous launch of 1,000 handwritten books stands as a remarkable testament to the power of consistent reading habits and creative encouragement, demonstrating how young minds can turn imagination into meaningful literary expression.
