Sr. Wilma Elected First Indian Superior General of Sisters of Our Lady of Carmel

Rome, August 8, 2025 – Rev. Sr. Wilma was elected as the first Indian Superior General of the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Carmel (INSC) during the Generalate held in Rome on 7 August 2025.


Hailing from Our Lady of Velankanni, Munambam, Pallippuram in the Kottappuram Diocese, Sr. Wilma is the second daughter of Rockey and Catherine Pinheiro. She has three sisters, and among her relatives is Rev. Febin Buros, a member of the Congregation of the Passionist Fathers.


Her election marks a historic moment for the congregation and highlights the growing leadership roles of Indian religious sisters in international Catholic communities.


The Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Carmel was founded to serve the Church through education, healthcare, and social outreach. With a presence in several countries, the congregation continues to empower communities through faith-based initiatives worldwide.
