Goa, August 13, 2024: The CCBI Media Apostolate held its National Meeting at Shanthi Sadan, Goa on August 12 and 13 bringing together the regional secretaries from across the country. The two day event focused on enhancing the Church's mission in the digital age and fostering effective media coordination within the Church's structures.
Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, the CCBI President and Archbishop of Goa and Daman, at the day’s Eucharist underscored the critical role of the Media Apostolate and the communication secretaries stating, “The Synodal Church is a listening and communicating Church. It is not a new idea but what the Church is supposed to be, as we reach out to the least, last and lost people of the world.”
His Eminence encouraged and acknowledged the efforts and contributions of the secretaries in the media apostolate. He also reiterated the saying, “much can be done by what one says, more can be done by what one does and most can be done by what one is”, in order to highlight the role of Church communicators to communicate the Church in the present age.
The participants were tasked with exploring critical questions regarding the Church's digital mission, such as how the Church could learn from the digital environment and the role of digital media in paving the way for a Synodal Church.
Rev. Dr. Cyril Victor Joseph introduced the Catholic Connect and emphasized on the role the App in uniting the Catholic Church on the digital space. He also discussed the CCBI Pastoral Plan and provided an update on the progress made so far and the journey ahead, particularly focusing on the media section and compliance requirements from the regions and the dioceses.
The Preparatory Document for the 36th Plenary Assembly of the CCBI was introduced by Fr. Nigel Barrett, Regional Secretary of the Western Region.
The two day event focused on strengthening the Church's digital mission and media coordination efforts across India.
