Pope Leo XIV Receives First Copy of “Free Under Grace”

Vatican City, May 4, 2026: Pope Leo XIV has received the first copy of the Italian edition of the book “Free Under Grace – At the School of Saint Augustine in the Face of the Challenges of History”, which will be available in bookshops from May 4.

The volume, published by Libreria Editrice Vaticana, brings together a collection of writings from the period when the Pope served as Prior General of the Order of Saint Augustine between 2001 and 2013.

The book was presented to the Pope by Joseph Farrell, the current Prior General of the Order. He was accompanied by Rocco Ronzani, one of the editors and Prefect of the Vatican Apostolic Archive, along with Lorenzo Fazzini, editorial director of the Vatican Publishing House. The book has also been edited by Fathers Miguel Ángel Martín Juárez and Michael Di Gregorio.

According to the Vatican, the publication offers insight into the spirituality of the Pope through his speeches, homilies, letters and messages. The book is expected to be translated into multiple languages and released in several countries in the coming months.

The official presentation of the book is scheduled for May 6 in Rome at the Pontifical Patristic Institute Augustinianum. Among those set to attend are Cardinal Pietro Parolin, along with Church officials and representatives of Vatican communications.
