Vatican City, 25 May, 2025 - During his first Regina Caeli address from the window of the Apostolic Palace, Pope Leo XIV urged the faithful to walk in the joy of the faith, recalling Jesus’ call for hearts not to be troubled. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for the affection shown to him and asked for continued prayers and closeness.
“Just a few days ago,” the Pope said, “I began my ministry among you, and first of all, I want to thank you for the affection you are showing me.”
In his catechesis, the Holy Father acknowledged that believers often feel inadequate when responding to God’s call. Referring to Sunday’s Gospel from St. John, he encouraged reliance not on personal strength, but on the Lord’s mercy, certain of the Holy Spirit’s guidance and teaching.
He reminded the faithful that Christ offers peace and comfort even in distress. Quoting Jesus’ promise to the Apostles, Pope Leo said, “‘Whoever loves Me will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him.’”
Jesus, he added, reassures his followers: “Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
The Pope emphasised that remaining in God’s love allows Him to dwell within us, shaping our thoughts, decisions, and actions. He described the Holy Spirit as one who “takes us by the hand,” enabling us to recognise God's presence in daily life.
“It is beautiful,” Pope Leo said, “that even though I am fragile, the Lord is not ashamed of my humanity.”
He concluded by encouraging all to walk in faith and holiness: “Let us walk in the joy of faith, and let us commit ourselves to bringing His love everywhere.”
