Parliament to Convene for Monsoon Session from 21 July Amid Security Concerns

New Delhi, 4 June, 2025 – The Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to take place from 21 July to 12 August, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed on Wednesday. A formal proposal has been sent to the President of India to summon the House.

This will mark the first sitting of Parliament since the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, which claimed 26 lives. The session will also follow Operation Sindoor—a military response targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Rijiju stated that, under parliamentary rules, all issues are open for discussion during the Monsoon Session. His remarks came in response to opposition calls for a debate on national security and the government's handling of recent events.

"This is the forum for every concern to be raised and addressed. No issue is barred from being discussed," he asserted, according to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI).

The upcoming session is expected to be politically charged, with the opposition likely to demand detailed briefings on both the Pahalgam attack and the subsequent cross-border operation. Public and political pressure has been mounting for transparency and accountability, especially regarding security lapses and India's strategic response.

While no specific bills or agendas have been officially released, government sources indicate that the session may also include discussions on key economic measures and legislative proposals delayed due to the national crisis.

This Monsoon Session, coming in the wake of heightened security challenges, is anticipated to be one of the most closely watched in recent years.
