Record 19,000 Catholic Youth to Join Paris–Chartres Pilgrimage

France, 6 June 2025: A record 19,000 young Catholics are set to take part in the Paris-to-Chartres pilgrimage this weekend, amidst increased scrutiny from the Vatican. The three-day pilgrimage, running from 7–9 June and organised by the French association Notre-Dame de Chrétienté, has become the largest traditional Catholic pilgrimage in France. It draws thousands annually, many of whom are particularly attracted by the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass.

In 2024, attendance reached a high of 18,000, up from 16,000 in 2023. This year, however, registrations closed within just five days after surpassing 19,000 participants — a record-breaking figure, according to organisers. The average age of this year’s pilgrims is 20, reflecting a growing interest in the faith among younger generations, particularly those attached to the Latin liturgy.

This revival among youth comes even as the pilgrimage faces increasing attention from Church authorities following Pope Francis’ 2021 motu proprio Traditionis Custodes, which imposed stricter regulations on the use of the Traditional Latin Mass, placing its oversight under local bishops and the Vatican.
