Vellore, April 29, 2026: Underscoring the crucial role of families in fostering priestly vocations, the Vellore diocese brought together seminarians and their parents for a special gathering.
Held at the Bishop's House on April 28, the seminarians' parents meet coincided with the 60th birthday of Bishop Ambrose Pitchaimuthu of Vellore. The event was marked by prayer, fellowship, and gratitude.
The programme began with a prayer song and a welcome, followed by felicitations and reflections from participants. The Vicar General, in his address, acknowledged the sacrifices parents make in supporting their sons' call to the priesthood.
Addressing the gathering, Bishop Ambrose Pitchaimuthu of Vellore emphasised that parents are the first formators of vocations. He noted that a family's prayer life, moral values, and encouragement are foundational in nurturing future priests. He urged parents to continue supporting their sons with love, understanding, and constant prayer throughout their formation journey.
The parents expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the Church's formation process. Many shared that the meeting strengthened their confidence and offered them a clearer understanding of priestly formation.
The initiative was widely appreciated as a diocesan-level effort and was highlighted as one of the first of its kind in India.
As a sign of gratitude, gifts were presented to the parents in recognition of their silent sacrifices, constant prayers, and unwavering support. Bro. Kevin Nayagam proposed the vote of thanks, with participants offering prayers for the Bishop.
The programme was coordinated by Fr. I. Valanarasu, Diocesan Vocation Communication Secretary, who ensured the participation of seminarians and their families.
