New Delhi, March 14, 2026: Amid growing concerns about LPG availability, the Government of India has reassured citizens that there is no need to panic. Authorities say the supply of cooking gas for households is being actively protected and increased, with several steps already underway to stabilize distribution across the country.
Officials confirmed that refineries have been instructed to maximize LPG production, leading to a 28–30% increase in domestic output in recent days. This move is intended to ensure that homes, hospitals, and other essential services continue to receive cylinders without disruption.
According to government sources, LPG distribution is being carefully prioritised to make sure essential users are not affected. Authorities have also advised citizens not to panic-book cylinders, as such behaviour can temporarily strain the supply chain.
India relies heavily on LPG imports, particularly from the Middle East, and some shortages have been linked to global disruptions affecting shipping routes. To address this, ports and logistics systems are being prioritised so that LPG tankers can reach India faster and replenish stocks.
The message from officials remains clear: supply is being increased and essential household needs will continue to be met.

Households can book LPG cylinders using several simple methods:
1. Phone / IVRS Booking
Call the toll-free number of your LPG provider from your registered mobile number and follow the automated instructions.
2. Mobile Apps or Online Platforms
Cylinders can be booked through official LPG mobile apps, company websites, and many digital wallet or banking apps.
3. Missed Call or WhatsApp Services
Some companies, including HP Gas, allow booking through missed calls or WhatsApp.
4. Local Distributor Office
Customers can also visit their nearest LPG distributor or agency for manual booking.
Energy experts say the situation is likely to improve in the coming weeks. Increased domestic production, along with additional LPG shipments being arranged through special shipping routes, is expected to stabilize supply gradually.
The government has also emphasized that household LPG distribution remains a top priority, ensuring families can continue their daily cooking needs without prolonged disruption.
While the supply system stabilises, households may consider a few temporary alternatives if necessary:
• Electric or induction cooktops – efficient and compatible with normal electricity supply
• Piped Natural Gas – available in many urban areas
• Community kitchens run by local communities or religious institutions during shortages
• Traditional fuels such as biomass or wood in rural areas for short-term emergency use
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged citizens to remain calm. With production increasing and new shipments arriving, the government says LPG supply for households will remain secure.
For most families, the best course of action right now is simple: book normally, avoid panic, and rely on official updates.
