Nagpur Archdiocese Marks World Communications Day with Call for Ethical Digital Engagement

Nagpur, June 29, 2026: The Nagpur Archdiocesan Media and Communication (NAMCOM), in collaboration with the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), celebrated the 60th World Day of Social Communications on June 28 at Mary Queen of Apostles Church, Anant Nagar, bringing together priests, religious, media professionals, youth, and lay faithful to reflect on the Church's mission of proclaiming the Gospel through modern means of communication.

Centred on the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital age, the celebration underscored the importance of promoting ethical communication and safeguarding human dignity in an era increasingly influenced by digital media and artificial intelligence.

A highlight of the programme was a keynote session by Fr. Prashant on the theme, "Magnifica Humanitas: Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence." He urged participants to embrace technological advancements responsibly while ensuring that communication remains rooted in truth, ethics, and respect for the dignity of every person. He also emphasised the need for critical engagement with artificial intelligence so that technology serves humanity rather than diminishes authentic human relationships.

Approximately 130 participants attended the programme, engaging actively in the discussions and reflections. Youth from various parishes enriched the celebration through cultural performances that highlighted the values of truth, hope, and responsible media use, reinforcing the Church's message of ethical communication.

The celebration culminated in the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Archbishop Elias Gonsalves of Nagpur. In his homily, the Archbishop called upon the faithful to become authentic digital missionaries, using contemporary media platforms to proclaim the Gospel with truth, charity, and hope while fostering dialogue and unity in society.

The observance reaffirmed the Archdiocese of Nagpur's commitment to promoting responsible and value-based communication, encouraging Catholics to harness the power of modern media as effective instruments of evangelisation, peace, and service in an increasingly digital world.
