Mysuru Youth Convention 2026 Inspires Young Catholics to ‘Radiate Christ’

Mysuru, April 21, 2026: A vibrant expression of youthful faith and commitment marked the Youth Convention 2026 in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mysore, as around 560 young people gathered from April 18 to 20 under the theme “Hongirana – To Radiate Christ.” The three-day event served as a dynamic platform for spiritual renewal, leadership formation, and community building among Catholic youth.

Organised by the diocesan Commission for Youth, the convention focused on nurturing a holistic Christian identity, encouraging participants to deepen their relationship with Christ while engaging responsibly with the challenges of contemporary life.

The inaugural session was presided over by Msgr. M. Anthappa, Vicar General of the Diocese of Mysore, who underscored the vital role of young people as the present strength of the Church, calling them to live their faith with authenticity and courage.

Chief Guest Elisha Andrew urged the youth to integrate faith with integrity, discipline, and leadership in public life. The presence of diocesan clergy, including Fr. Lourdu Prasad, Fr. Arul Selva Kumar, and Fr. Maria Xavier Sunil, enriched the proceedings.

The spiritual core of the convention was strengthened through the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Bishop Francis Serrao and Bishop Thomas Vazhapilly. In their homilies, the bishops called on the youth to remain rooted in Christ and to become credible witnesses of the Gospel in today’s world.

A distinctive feature of the convention was its choice-based workshop model, allowing participants to engage in sessions tailored to their interests and concerns. Topics ranged from vocational discernment and catechetical relevance to digital responsibility, evangelisation, relationships, and emotional resilience. These sessions offered practical insights aimed at equipping young people to navigate modern realities while remaining grounded in Christian values.

The valedictory programme, held at the St. Philomena’s College Indoor Stadium, was presided over by Bishop Vazhapilly. Chief Guest Fr. Leslie Moras encouraged participants to assume leadership roles within their communities. Fr. Ashwin Cardoza and Joshy Basil further motivated the youth toward disciplined living, service, and personal growth.

The convention was coordinated under the leadership of Fr. Maria Xavier Sunil, Director of the Commission for Youth, and Mr. Jerome Immanuel, President of ICYM Mysore.

Participants described the gathering as a transformative experience, renewing their faith and strengthening their commitment to live and share the Gospel in their families, parishes, and wider society.
