Jabalpur, March 3, 2026: In a renewed effort to strengthen priestly life and pastoral outreach, diocesan executive members from across the Madhya Pradesh region gathered at the Pastoral Centre in Jabalpur on March 2 to chart a forward-looking path for diocesan clergy. The meeting marked a significant step in advancing the CDPI Pastoral Plan 2033 and reinforcing unity, formation and missionary commitment among priests.
Fifteen representatives from five dioceses participated in the regional assembly, which was guided by Bishop Peter Kharadi of Jhabua, Regional Chairman of the VSCR Commission. The discussions were animated by Fr. Charles Leon, National Executive Secretary of VSCR and CDPI, who helped situate the deliberations within the broader vision of a priesthood that is spiritually rooted, pastorally competent and closely connected to the faithful.
In a spirit of prayerful reflection, participants examined the contemporary realities facing diocesan priests. Central to their deliberations was the conviction that sustained prayer—especially time spent before the Blessed Sacrament—remains the wellspring of priestly life and ministry. Alongside this spiritual grounding, the gathering underscored the importance of ongoing theological formation and the development of practical pastoral skills to address emerging social and ecclesial challenges.
A strong emphasis was placed on fostering fraternity within the presbyterium. The need to mentor young priests and accompany those experiencing personal or pastoral difficulties was highlighted as essential to nurturing a resilient and compassionate clergy. To this end, the assembly proposed concrete initiatives such as regular deanery-level meetings, study circles and structured opportunities for reconciliation and mutual support.
Participants also reflected on the importance of collaborative ministry. Greater engagement with the laity, responsible participation in public life and constructive dialogue with civic authorities were identified as key to ensuring that pastoral outreach remains credible and responsive in an increasingly complex social context.
The meeting concluded with the election of a new regional leadership team entrusted with carrying forward this vision. Fr. Dominic Thomas was elected President, with Fr. Jose George as Vice President and Fr. Dennis Tigga as Treasurer. Fr. Christuraj will serve as Ex-officio Secretary, while Fr. Edwin Paul and Fr. Pradeep Ekka were elected as members.
Expressing gratitude for the collective commitment shown by the priests, Bishop Peter Kharadi encouraged them to continue walking together in fraternity and shared purpose. The newly elected President echoed this call, inviting priests across the region to build a mission-oriented clergy marked by integrity, hope and renewed zeal in service of God’s people.
