Mount Carmel Schools in Akola Receive A+ State Accreditation

Akola, March 9, 2026: Two Catholic educational institutions in Akola have earned top recognition from the Government of Maharashtra, as Mount Carmel High School and Mount Carmel Primary School were awarded the prestigious A+ accreditation in a statewide evaluation of schools.

The distinction places the two institutions among the nearly 300 schools recognised for excellence out of more than three lakh institutions assessed across Maharashtra under the government’s accreditation programme.

The comprehensive evaluation examined a wide range of criteria, including infrastructure facilities, academic performance, teacher–student ratio, quality of teaching, cultural and extracurricular engagement, and human resource development.

Within the Diocese of Amravati, which administers about 32 educational institutions, Mount Carmel High School and Mount Carmel Primary School are among the few to receive this distinction, highlighting their consistent commitment to quality education.

The Mount Carmel institutions were founded in 1978 by the late Joseph Rosario, the first bishop of the diocese, along with the late Norbert Braganza, MSFS. They were established with the vision of promoting holistic education that combines academic excellence with moral and spiritual formation.

Over the decades, the schools have developed into respected centres of learning in Akola, shaping generations of students through disciplined academic training and value-based education.

The institutions are currently led by Fr. Joselin Pancras, who serves as Principal and Manager under the guidance of Malcolm Sequeira, Bishop of the Diocese of Amravati. Fr. Pancras, who holds a doctorate in education, has also presented research papers at international forums focusing on educational development and institutional growth.

School authorities said the A+ accreditation reflects the institutions’ sustained commitment to maintaining high academic standards while contributing to the advancement of quality education in the region.
