Imphal, April 27, 2026: The Manipur Catholic community is celebrating the remarkable achievements of several young Catholics who have excelled in the Union and state civil services examinations, reflecting a growing spirit of excellence, perseverance, and service among the youth.
In a statement, the Manipur Catholic Youth Organization (MCYO) congratulated four of its members for their outstanding success in some of the country's most competitive examinations. Dr. Vapani John Tao secured Rank 800 in the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination 2025, while Lawrence Masouhrii cleared the UPSC Assistant Commandant (CAPF) examination. In the Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination, Laijing Leikhulshim Maring attained Rank 24, and Katalanpou Rongmei secured Rank 40.
MCYO also honoured its former president, Napoleon Rongmei of Luangreng Village, Noney District, on his induction into the Indian Forest Service by the UPSC. Previously serving in the Manipur Forest Service, Rongmei led the organisation for nearly eight years, playing a pivotal role in youth leadership and Church initiatives.
Reflecting on his achievement, Mr. Laijing Leikhulshim Maring, currently serving as Sports Secretary of MCYO and Deputy Director at the Sports Authority of India, stated, “It is the resilience, discipline, and growth I’ve gained through repeated failures. It is rising after every fall and contributing meaningfully to others,” he said, emphasising that success extends beyond merely clearing examinations.
Katalanpou Rongmei attributed his accomplishment to God's grace and the support of family and well-wishers. He encouraged young people to foster a spirit of healthy competition that brings out the best in one another.
For Dr. Vapani John Tao, a graduate of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences and a native of Oinam Hill Village in Senapati District, the success was the culmination of years of sacrifice and determination. He expressed hope that his achievement would inspire Catholic youth to dream boldly and pursue their goals with courage and faith.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lawrence Masouhrii, who cleared the UPSC Assistant Commandant (CAPF) examination in 2023 and has since been commissioned as an Assistant Commandant in the Border Security Force, currently posted in Punjab, encouraged aspirants to remain steadfast. “You lose when you stop trying. We must give our absolute best, or we risk defeat before the battle even begins. Leave the rest to God—He knows what’s truly best for you,” he said.
Praising the achievers, MCYO said their accomplishments are a source of inspiration for Catholic youth across Manipur. The organisation prayed for God's continued guidance and blessings upon them as they embark on careers dedicated to public service and nation-building.
