Jaipur, April 27, 2026: The Diocese of Jaipur witnessed the ordination of two deacons to the sacred priesthood during a solemn celebration at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Annunciation on April 26.
Bishop Joseph Kallarackal of Jaipur presided over the sacred rite of ordination of Fr. Amar Jyoti Minj and Fr. Samuel Kerketta in the presence of a large gathering of priests, religious, family members, and faithful from across the diocese.
The liturgy began with a solemn procession, setting a prayerful tone for the celebration. In his homily, Bishop Oswald Lewis, Emeritus Bishop, highlighted the profound responsibilities of the priesthood, calling the newly ordained to lives marked by humility, compassion, and dedicated service. He urged them to remain close to the people, especially by visiting families, being readily available to parishioners, and showing kindness to all.
Bishop Lewis reminded the ordinands to be "an example for the believers in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity," underscoring the priest's role as a witness to Christ in both word and deed.
The most sacred moment of the celebration came with the laying on of hands and the prayer of consecration, through which the two deacons were ordained priests. They were then vested in priestly garments and joined Bishop Kallarackal at the altar in the Eucharist.
The liturgy was led by Fr. Melwin D'Souza, Parish Priest, assisted by Fr. Vinod Kujur. The cathedral family also acknowledged the contributions of the CMC Sisters and the seminarians of Maria Sadan for their support in organising the event.
A felicitation programme followed, during which the newly ordained priests were honoured with garlands, safas, and shawls. Cultural performances by parishioners added to the festive atmosphere.
The ordination of Fr. Minj and Fr. Kerketta marks a moment of grace for the Diocese of Jaipur, renewing its mission to shepherd God's people through dedicated pastoral service.
