Laity Commission Conducts Outreach to Destitute Home in Bhadravathi

Bhadravathi, Karnataka, February 22, 2026 — As part of the observance of the Year of the Marginalised, the Laity Commission of Church of Our Lady of Vailankani organised a charitable outreach to the Destitute Home at Moolakatte, offering companionship, prayer and material support to residents.

The initiative, held on February 16, brought together 35 lay faithful, accompanied by several children, under the guidance of Sr. Shobhana and Mrs Reshma D’Souza. Participants spent time interacting with the residents, listening to their life experiences and sharing moments of fellowship aimed at fostering dignity and hope.

As part of the outreach, volunteers served tea and snacks to the inmates and distributed essential grocery items for the Home. The presence of children added warmth to the gathering, creating a lively and uplifting atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

Rev. Fr Steevan D’Sa led the community in prayer and offered a reflection on the Christian call to serve the poor and vulnerable with compassion and responsibility. Members of the laity also presented songs and simple cultural items, contributing to a spirit of joy and solidarity.

The visit concluded with a final blessing, with participants describing the experience as spiritually enriching and a meaningful encounter with Christ in the marginalised.

The outreach formed part of ongoing parish efforts in Bhadravathi to promote social responsibility and active lay participation in charitable service.
