Karnataka’s New Subsidy Scheme for Christian Women Self-Help Groups

Bengaluru, June 23, 2026: Women’s economic empowerment plays a vital role in building stronger families, sustainable livelihoods, and thriving communities. Recognising the importance of women-led entrepreneurship, the Karnataka Christian Community Development Corporation Limited has introduced a dedicated Subsidy Scheme for Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to support Christian community women in becoming financially independent through self-employment and enterprise development.

Under the leadership of D.K. Shivakumar, Government of Karnataka, and the guidance of Prof. S. Japhet, the initiative aims to transform women’s aspirations into economic opportunities by strengthening Self-Help Groups across the state.

The scheme encourages women to come together, develop sustainable income-generating activities, and create a foundation for long-term financial security.

The Vision Behind the Initiative

Self-Help Groups have emerged as powerful platforms for collective growth, allowing women to combine their skills, resources, and determination to create successful enterprises.

The Karnataka Christian Community Development Corporation Limited designed this subsidy scheme with a clear objective: to help Christian community women’s SHGs become economically self-reliant by supporting them in various self-empowerment activities.

Through financial assistance, the scheme promotes entrepreneurship, encourages group-based economic activities, and helps women access opportunities that can improve their livelihoods.

The initiative reflects the belief that when women become economically stronger, entire communities progress.

Financial Support Through Subsidy Assistance

Under this scheme, eligible Women Self-Help Groups will receive financial support in the form of a subsidy.

The Corporation will provide: 50% of the unit cost or a maximum subsidy of ₹2.00 lakh, whichever is lower

The subsidy will be provided as a back-end subsidy, meaning the amount will be adjusted towards the repayment of the loan obtained by the SHG from recognised financial institutions.

The loans must be obtained from:

  • Nationalised Banks
  • Scheduled Banks
  • Financial institutions recognised by the Reserve Bank of India

This support reduces the financial burden on women entrepreneurs and enables SHGs to establish and expand self-employment activities.

Who Can Benefit From This Scheme?

The scheme is designed specifically for Christian community women Self-Help Groups that are working towards economic independence through entrepreneurship.

To be eligible:

The SHG must be registered under:

  • National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), or
  • National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM)

Eligible groups can utilise the financial support for approved self-employment activities that generate income and strengthen their economic stability.

Key Objectives of the Scheme

The Women Self-Help Group Subsidy Scheme is built around four important goals:

1. A Step Towards Women’s Economic Empowerment

The scheme aims to provide women with financial opportunities that help them become independent decision-makers and contributors to household and community development.

2. Economic Empowerment Through Entrepreneurship

By supporting women-led businesses and income-generating activities, the initiative encourages entrepreneurship and builds confidence among SHG members.

3. The Strength of Unity, The Progress of the Community

Self-Help Groups demonstrate the power of collective action. When women work together, they can create stronger economic networks and support systems.

4. Supporting Aspirations, Creating Opportunities

The scheme provides a pathway for women to convert their ideas and skills into sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Building Stronger SHGs Through Accountability

Along with financial assistance, the scheme encourages SHGs to maintain proper records and transparent functioning.

Each Self-Help Group must maintain:

  1. SHG meeting minutes book
  2. Member savings passbook
  3. Loan register
  4. SHG bank passbook

Maintaining these records ensures effective financial management and strengthens the credibility of the group.

Documents Required for Subsidy Application

Eligible SHGs must submit the following documents:

  1. Online application
  2. Two passport-size photographs of each SHG member
  3. Income and caste certificates of each member
  4. Copy of Aadhaar Card of each member
  5. Detailed project report explaining the SHG’s self-employment activity
  6. Copy of SHG bank passbook
  7. Group photograph of SHG members
  8. Copy of minutes book showing at least six months of regular meetings
  9. Self-declaration affidavit from each SHG member

These documents help ensure smooth processing and verification of applications.

A Pathway Towards Self-Reliance

Economic independence is one of the strongest foundations for social progress. By supporting women-led enterprises, this initiative aims to create new opportunities for families, strengthen local economies, and encourage community development.

The scheme is not only about financial assistance—it represents confidence in women’s abilities, ideas, and leadership.

Through collective effort, entrepreneurship, and government support, Women Self-Help Groups can become powerful engines of economic growth.
