Bengaluru, September 9, 2026: Christian students from Karnataka planning to pursue higher education overseas can apply for financial assistance of up to ₹20 lakh under the Foreign Education Loan Scheme of the Karnataka Christian Community Development Corporation Limited (KCCDCL).
The scheme aims to help students overcome financial barriers to studying at reputed foreign universities. The loan is interest-free, with applicants required to repay the amount in 60 equal instalments beginning six months after completion of their course. A 2 per cent service charge is deducted from the sanctioned amount at the time of disbursement.
The deadline for submitting applications for the current cycle is 30 September 2026.
Applicants must be residents of Karnataka and belong to the Christian community. They must have secured at least 60 per cent marks in the previous academic year and obtained an offer letter from a recognised foreign university.
The scheme covers postgraduate, integrated honours and PhD courses at reputed institutions. According to the scheme guidelines, the university must generally feature among the top 500 in the QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education World University Rankings or Academic Ranking of World Universities.
For specialised courses, institutions must meet the prescribed subject-specific ranking requirements. Management applicants may qualify through institutions listed in the Financial Times Global Rankings.
Students receiving a scholarship from the Directorate of Minorities for overseas education are not eligible for this loan.
The loan is secured against property. Applicants must provide a building or land as mortgage security, with the value of the property being no less than the sanctioned loan amount.
The scheme documentation also specifies that the mortgaged property should be held in the name of a blood relative or family member where applicable, while the guarantor must be a blood relative or family member of the borrower.
Applicants should therefore ensure that property documents and ownership details are in order before proceeding with the application.
The application requires several educational, identity and property documents. These include SSLC and Class 12 marks cards, transfer certificate, present study certificate, college fee structure, passport and visa copies, and the foreign university offer letter.
Property-related documents include the sale and mother deed, nil encumbrance certificate, updated tax receipt, valuation report from a registered valuer, and Khata extract and certificate or mutation records.
Applicants must also provide photographs, affidavits, a joint affidavit from the beneficiary and guarantor, a promissory note and other documents specified by KCCDCL.
Additional documentation, including an affidavit on ₹100 e-stamp paper and a mortgage deed, is required during the documentation and recommendation stage.
With international education costs continuing to place significant financial pressure on families, the scheme could provide an important pathway for eligible Christian students seeking advanced qualifications abroad.
Students intending to apply should carefully check the eligible-institution requirements, collateral conditions and documentation before submitting their applications.
With 30 September 2026 as the stated deadline, prospective applicants are advised to begin completing the documentation well in advance and use the KCCDCL portal for the latest application instructions. The official scheme page is available through the KCCDCL online portal.
The scheme represents a significant opportunity for eligible Karnataka students to pursue globally recognised higher education while accessing an interest-free government-backed loan facility.
