Bakuriani, Georgia, Aug. 27, 2025: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) represented India at the FIMCAP General Assembly 2025, held from August 18 to 23 at the Grand Noel Hotel in Bakuriani, Georgia. FIMCAP is the intercontinental federation of Catholic parish youth movements. The international gathering brought together 59 delegates from 21 member organisations across four continents to deliberate on youth empowerment within Catholic parish life, elect new leadership at continental and intercontinental levels, and frame a three-year global action plan.
Organised by FIMCAP—Fédération Internationale des Mouvements Catholiques d’Action Paroissiale—the Assembly, convened every three years, serves as the federation’s highest decision-making summit. Delegates reviewed statutes, examined finances, and worked on the new thematic focus, “Youth Well-being”, built on four pillars—mental, physical, relational, and spiritual well-being. The previous theme was “Solidarity”.
Representing India and the Asian Conference, Ms. Apurva Xess, National Executive Committee (NEXCO) member from Chhattisgarh, actively contributed to the sessions. She led the opening prayer of the Assembly, coordinated the choir for the inaugural Mass, presented ICYM’s report to the Asian Conference, and delivered the Asian Conference Report to the General Assembly. She also highlighted the perspectives of Indian Catholic youth during intercontinental discussions.
Ms. Xess was recently appointed to the National Synod Team of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) in July 2025. Through her participation in the FIMCAP General Assembly, she continues to strengthen ICYM’s presence on global platforms.
The Assembly also conducted elections for continental presidia and the intercontinental presidium, which will guide FIMCAP until the next General Assembly in 2028. Official results will be announced through FIMCAP’s communications.
As the event drew to a close on August 23, ICYM reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing leadership, strengthening solidarity, and driving meaningful action among youth in India and across the globe
