A grand procession moved from St. Francis Xavier Church to a local field owned by Hindu farmer Shashikant Usgaonkar and cultivated by the Chicalim Youth Farmers Club. Parish leaders, including Parish Priest Fr. Bolmax Pereira, Fr. Francis Pereira, and South Goa MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes, who attended as a parishioner, led the procession.

Fr. Bolmax blessed the fields and performed the traditional first paddy grain cutting (Konnos), a central act of the fest. The procession then continued to the ruins of the Old Church of St. Bartholomeu, where a new statue of St. Bartholomeu was permanently installed. For the first time in 278 years, public Mass was celebrated at the ruins, commemorating the parish’s 400-year journey of faith.

The evening programme featured games and activities for all age groups. Coordinator Stefanie Lucas opened the festivities with a prayer, while chief guest Mrs. Filipina Cardozo, mother of Fr. Bolmax Pereira, graced the occasion. Sector-based competitions encouraged teamwork and camaraderie, with the traditional Coconut Breaking contest organised by the Chicalim Sports Club as a highlight, featuring a playful twist as the priests broke the first coconut.

MC Valerie expertly guided participants through the activities, while DJ Steven filled the grounds with music, creating a lively and festive atmosphere. Naquelim Sector emerged as the overall winner, retaining their trophy from the previous year. The parish youth also took responsibility for cleaning the venue, showcasing community service alongside celebration.

A Blessed 400-Year Legacy

Konnsachem Fest 2025 successfully united the community in faith, tradition, and joy. The 400-year jubilee of St. Bartholomew Church served as a poignant reminder of the parish’s rich heritage, cultural legacy, and enduring unity, leaving cherished memories for generations to come.
