“I Owe My Life to Her” - A Survivor’s Story of Mother Mary’s Intercession

Rome is filled with stories of faith, but sometimes the most powerful testimonies come from ordinary people whose lives are touched by extraordinary grace. One such story is that of Kevin Pinto, a resident of Katile under SFS Parish, Nagpur. By profession, Kevin balances two vocations, he works as a travel agent and also serves as a music teacher.

Recalling his past, Kevin points to the very ground where he once played as a child. “Right in front of where we now stand, there used to be a big ground,” he said. “Every year, it would be decorated during the Durga Mata festival, which our Hindu brothers and sisters celebrate with devotion. A pandal would be put up right across the road, and the entire neighbourhood would join the festivities.”

It was during one such season of celebration that Kevin faced a life-threatening incident. While playing badminton, his shuttlecock flew onto the shed. Being 6 feet 1 inch tall, he thought he could retrieve it easily. He climbed onto the compound gate, using bamboo poles for support. What he did not realise was that a live wire was running alongside the shed.

“The moment I touched it, I felt a massive electric shock run through my body,” Kevin recalled. “I collapsed right there, unable to let go, screaming for help. I knew it could have been fatal for me. But deep in my heart, I believe it was Mother Mary who saved me.”

Later, engineers confirmed that the live wire carried dangerously high voltage, a current strong enough to take a life. Yet Kevin walked away with his life intact. “When I think of it now, I know it was nothing short of a miracle,” he said.

The experience strengthened his devotion to Our Lady. “At the very same time, my parents were also going through a health crisis. They had lost a lot of blood, and I believe even then, it was her intercession that protected them,” Kevin shared with conviction.

Years earlier, a transformer located just behind the grotto had caught fire. It burned down completely, but the grotto, including its glass panels, remained untouched. For Kevin, this was yet another visible sign of divine protection. “Whenever people pass by the grotto, they stop to pray. Families from different religions also come and offer their prayers. This place has become a symbol of unity, devotion, and grace.”

For Kevin, the incident was not simply about survival, it was about discovering the unwavering protection of Our Lady. “I owe my life to her. She blessed me, she protected me. And for that, I will always be grateful,” he said.

His testimony, like many others, is a reminder that faith is not confined to words or rituals. Sometimes, it is written in the very moments when life hangs in the balance, and grace steps in to protect.
